| The Sexual Assault Centre Kingston, as one part of a comprehensive network of services for victims and survivors of sexual violence, promotes a philosophy based upon a feminist analysis of violence against women. In developing, delivering and maintaining SAC Kingston services and programs, staff, volunteers, and board members will promote the following principles. |
| 1. |
To work within a feminist framework which SAC Kingston defines as a women centred philosophy that recognizes the social, economical, cultural, racial, linguistic, physical, mental and psychiatric context surrounding a woman’s life. To value and contribute to the diverse ways women gain personal and political power in their lives. |
| 2. |
To recognize, respect and reflect the principles of equity, diversity, accessibility, and anti-discrimination/anti-oppression practice. The centre understands these principles to be fundamental to our basic human rights. The centre also recognizes that women experience many barriers in society and that because of the diversity of women, every woman will experience these barriers in different ways. There is an expectation that the contributions of women who work at SAC Kingston paid and unpaid, will be valued. |
| 3. |
To challenge ourselves as well as structures and systems that contribute to the practice and maintenance of violence, oppression and exploitation. |
| 4. |
To support the activities of individuals, groups and organizations whose purpose and goals are to challenge structures and systems that contribute to the practice and maintenance of violence, oppression, exploitation and discrimination. |
| 5. |
The Sexual Assault Centre will demonstrate a philosophical and behavioural commitment to equity, fairness, diversity, accessibility, and anti-oppression/anti-discrimination practices. |
