Crisis Line:
SAC Kingston's 24-hour support line is a confidential, free service for women and men who are survivors of sexual violence. Friends, family or other support people may also call. The line is operated by trained volunteers who provide feminist crisis intervention, referrals and support. SAC Kingston also provides accompaniments to the police station, the courts and/or the hospital, in response to a recent sexual assault when requested.
Individual Counselling:
SAC Kingston offers one-to-one, short term and long term counselling to women and M-to-F, F-to-M trans-identified people, 16 years of age and older. All counselling sessions are free and confidential. Counsellors provide non-judgmental, feminist client-centred counselling, support, advocacy and community referrals to survivors of sexual violence. SAC Kingston serves survivors of all forms of sexual violence including pornography/child pornography, sexual harassment, childhood sexual abuse including ritual abuse, and rape.
Group Counselling for Adult Women:
Group counselling occurs weekly and touches on the following topics: goal setting, self-care, basic needs, self-esteem, assertiveness, boundaries, feelings, anger, coping mechanisms, and long-term effects of sexual violence.
SAC Kingston's organizational structure tries to minimize the power differences between the SAC Kingston worker and the woman asking for support. She is the expert on her life, determines the agenda, and is in control of her process during the call/counselling session. The process has the potential to build self-esteem and focuses on personal and political change. SAC Kingston workers are non-judgmental.
