| Volunteers are a very important part of the Sexual Assault Centre. Women who volunteer here bring an incredible amount of energy, ideas and resources to the organization. It is through the commitment and efforts of volunteers that we are able to provide such a wide range of services and programs. SAC Kingston has made a commitment to provide training and support to women who volunteer at the Centre. We welcome women to contact the Centre re: training regardless of whether they have had any past experience working/volunteering in this area.
People who volunteer at SAC Kingston do not need to have had previous experience in this area. We provide women with extensive training in a variety of areas. |
| SAC Kingston has three requirements of those people interested in becoming volunteers: |
| |
We ask that you have reached the age of 18 (in most cases, although women under the age of 18 may volunteer in some roles).
We ask that you identify as a woman.
We ask that you be supportive of women, women’s organizations, and the work that we do. |
|
| SAC Kingston volunteers can sit on a variety of committees: |
Frontline:
The purpose of the Frontline Committee is to provide feminist-based support to survivors of sexual violence; to provide crisis intervention and ongoing support to survivors of sexual violence, done predominantly on the 24-hour crisis line; and to provide support and resources to friends, partners and family members of survivors. |
Public Education:
The Public Education Committee creates and provides information packages on various topics surrounding sexual violence; develops handouts; meets with students researching issues surrounding sexual violence; staffs information tables; ensures that distribution of information about SAC Kingston is done throughout the city of Kingston and surrounding areas; and provides presentations, workshops and trainings to local schools, community organizations and other special interest groups on issues surrounding sexual violence. |
Health and Wellness:
This committee focuses on the health and wellness of the centre, and the women within it. The focus is on the holistic well-being of the space. |
Fundraising:
The Fundraising Committee is responsible for raising funds for SACK to meet the needs of clients and fund services for survivors. The committee is responsible for providing a yearly plan of fundraising events in keeping with the philosophy as outlined in our Basis of Unity. |
Board of Directors:
The Board of Directors is the legal authority for SAC Kingston. As a member of the board, a member acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. |
| SAC Kingston also has a number of ad-hoc committees that are created out of a specific need. |
