Medical Services

Kingston General Hospital (KGH) – Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Unit (SA/DV)

The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Program provides service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They offer:

  • Emergency medical care (within 12 days for +16yrs of age and no time limit for under 16yrs)

  • Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, HIV and pregnancy

  • Crisis counselling

  • Forensic evidence collection

  • Safety planning

**Go directly to the Emergency Department to access the SA/DV nurse.

Lennox and Addington County General Hospital – Emergency Department

Court Support

Ministry of the Attorney General – Victim/Witness Assistance Program (VWAP)

Survivors of sexual abuse or violence who have brought charges against their abuser are connected with V/WAP who provide information, assistance and support to victims of crime throughout the criminal justice process.

Criminal Injuries Compensation Board awards financial compensation for victims of crimes of violence that happened in Ontario. Survivors who want to submit a claim need to complete an application and submit it to the Board. The application, which Sexual Assault Centre Kingston can help you fill out, is available to download here

Lennox & Addington Interval House

Lennox & Addington Interval House provides safe shelter for abused women and their children for up to 6 weeks. Safe housing is provided to those who have been physically, sexually, emotionally or financially abused or those who fear they will be assaulted. Trained and committed staff offer supportive counselling, crisis intervention and safety planning.

Support Services

Resolve Counselling Services – Male Survivors’ Group: Coming to Terms with Childhood Sexual Abuse

This group is available to males over the age of 18 who are coming to terms with childhood sexual abuse. It is open to all men regardless of background, gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Land O’Lakes Women’s Program

The Land O’Lakes Women’s Program provides support and services to women aged 16 and older who are experiencing, or have experienced violence in their lives. Services include transportation, safety planning, court support, medical support and advocacy.

 

Kingston Anti-Violence Advisory Council (KAVAC)

KAVAC is a women survivor-led group committed to eradicating partner abuse and sexual violence and building safer communities. The Council is particularly interested in increasing awareness and understanding of victims’ experiences and needs among service providers, exploring new ways to improve and enhance services through inter–agency collaboration.

 

Elizabeth Fry Society Kingston

Service to women in conflict with the law and to women facing financial and social barriers that may put them at risk of coming into conflict with the law.

 

HIV/AIDS Regional Services (HARS)

Provides education, counselling, harm reduction, drop-in services, rapid HIV testing to individuals and organizations in Kingston and area.

Victim Services of Kingston and Frontenac – Human Trafficking Worker

Immediate assistance with emergency expenses related to the incident, including emergency home safety, accommodation, meals, transportation, dependent care costs, counselling, cellular phones, vision care, crime scene cleanup, and funeral expenses * additional assistance for victims of human trafficking include replacement of government documents, storage locker, dental, tattoo removal, and treatment at a recovery facility * no direct reimbursement to victims

Sexual Health Resource Centre (SHRC)

Non-judgemental, confidential, information and referral service regarding issues of sex, sexuality, and sexual health. Accommodation services to Women’s Clinic and Sexual Assault/Family Violence unit at KGH.

Confidential and non-judgemental sexual health services.

Sex Workers Action Group Kingston (SWAG Kingston) is a sex positive group run by sex workers, people with lived experience, allies, and agency members who strive to improve the lives of sex workers in Kingston and surrounding area.  SWAG is housed out of the HARS Kingston office.
